Alive

Sorry for the delay, guys… My computer is finally coming back to life, after two days of a total blackout probably due to the rain and some energy problems; though I’m without my two old HDs, and that means lots of lost data, guess I’m still ok. =P

By the way, as I promissed you, here is the present perfect guide I worked with you in class

Intermediate A guys, I’ve got those fairytales I promissed you last class, so there you go:

Fables

Choose one of Aesop’s fables (the short ones) and tell me by email, next class or on your blogs, alright?

Intermediate B group leaders, Jamile, Maurício and Karina, keep me informed about your projects, ok? ^^

See you all next saturday o/

Class activities and additional stuff

Intermediate B:

Brasil, Time’s article

So, I’ll be working with the first part of the text in classroom, but if you guys wish you can keep on reading from “All change” until the end on your own – I actually advice you to do that.

Corrupt politicians

Script for corrupt politicians Just scroll it down or use a “find function” on your browser for the word “bribe” – I guess it is the second or third that appears. Don’t worry about it for this class, though; most likely I’ll be using it after the oral activity.

Intermediate A:

You can take a look at these:

Chubby guy
Evanescence music

I should tell you to look the lyrics up on google, but there you go: Kelly’s blog

Get your engines ready!

March 2, 2009 at 1:43 am (Uncategorized) ()

Your tasks for next saturday:

Both classes, listen to this song (the first, not the second one) here -
Wonder song and try to transcribe it, bringing any fragments of lyrics you got next class.

Also, somebody asked me about a text to speech engine in which you type the word and your computer reads it for you. Well, there you go:
Text-to-speech

Guys from intermediate A, you take a look at these:
Sunday bloody sunday
song lyrics
Wikipedia article

You from intermediate B, check out these:
Young folk lyrics
Music clip and images from first week in Sao Paulo
Vlog entry from the editor of the aforesaid clip

I’ll be setting up the blog links and solving any issues that may rise along the week. By the bye, don’t forget bringing your books (and your dictionaries!) next class;

See y’all, dudes and dudettes!

what a spanking brand new… geez, forget about it!

February 18, 2009 at 10:10 pm (Uncategorized)

I always find introductions a bit weird, but anyway…

It was about time to put this funky blog up, so I decided not to waste my time anymore. Here are a few links you all must check out if you haven’t done that yet (plus a few extras):

Cambridge Dictionaries Online – Cambridge University Press

Phonetics: The Sounds of English – The University of Iowa

A Garfield’s Fotolog

Idioms and phrases

Urban Dictionary – If you have gone everywhere else and couldn’t find such a word like “snarge”, go for it; but be aware of lots of inexact content, jokes and some sarcastic definitions which are likely to occur most of the time.

Dicionário Miachaelis A bilingual dictionary which I particularly find quite clumsy and awkward nowadays; nevertheless, it is useful sometimes – and for free.

Ah, watch out for muggers and knuckleheads looking for fight during Mardi Gras (aka Carnival)

aka – acronym for “alson known as”

Btw – acronym for “by the way” – that’s it for today.

See ya later, folks!
